PMC - Year 2

PMC - Year 2

You may remember that last year I decided to ride the Pan Mass Challenge.  Just a little two day, 200 mile bike ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown with 5,000 of my closest friends.  I rode again this year and it was another amazing experience. Last year was such a blur that I really tried to document the ride this year so I could share it.  The point and shoot was mounted on teh handlebars for a while until the gorilla pod couldn’t take the vibration of the descents and gave out.

Some participants are experienced cyclists and finish the rides HOURS before I do, but the PMC isn’t a bike race, it’s an event.  So many thousands of riders, so many thousands of volunteers, so many thousands of specatators – each of them have their own reason for being there.

Me?  I ride for my Dad who is currently undergoing treatment for prostate cancer (he went a few rounds with colon cancer a few years ago).   I ride for cousins and aunts and uncles who have had breast and lung cancer.  I ride for a college friend who is undergoing treatment for stomach cancer.  I ride for you and any of your friends or relatives who have been stuck by this disease.  So far $24 million has been raised this year.  That’s $24,000,000 (I like to see the zeros) for cancer research at the Dana-Farber.  And while the Dana-Farber may be located in Boston, the research they do impacts cancer treatment worldwide.

Just a few more weeks until fundraising closes, so if you haven’t sponsored another rider, I’d be grateful for any donation you make.  100% of all rider raised monies goes directly to cancer research at the Dana-Farber.  (The ride support is covered by our rider fee, corporate sponsors and in-kind donations.)

This year I “live tweeted” the ride to try and capture what it’s like.  And yes, I’ll be doing the same thing next year – hopefully I will  have figured out a camera mount for my bike by then.  Here are all the tweets and pics in order.
